En termes de produits et de services. Le responsable Achat s’occupe de préparer les consultations ou les appels d’offre et de trouver les meilleurs fournisseurs, de conduire les négociations avec eux et de signer les contrats d’achat. Il doit éviter les scénarios de rupture de stock, mais également d’excès de stock. Enfin, il assure le suivi des fournisseurs et de leur performance en veillant à la bonne réalisation des conditions contractuelles négociées et en arbitrant les problèmes ou litiges éventuels.

Les différents rôles correspondent à l’intervention d’un individu dans le processus d’achat ou de consommation d’un produit.
Cette intervention peut revêtir plusieurs aspects. En marketing, sept types d’intervenants sont identifiés dans le processus d’achat.
Le Sourcing est un processus de recherche des fournisseurs pouvant le mieux répondre aux besoins de la société acheteuse en terme de coûts, délais, innovation et qualité.
Le sourcing en supply chain a pour but d'optimiser les dépenses, la valeur du produit et le service après-vente en établissant des relations durables et solides avec des fournisseurs fidèles et compétitifs.
Mono-sourcing
Le mono-sourcing est la stratégie consistant à passer toutes ses commandes d'un certain produit à un unique fournisseur. Cette méthode est souvent adoptée par la "force des choses" mais peut aussi être un choix délibéré.
Un partenariat à long terme et le développement d'une relation de confiance est le cœur de la méthode. Il peut notamment apporter une garantie de qualité, une réduction sur les coûts ou un arrangement sur les termes de paiement.
Toutefois, une chaine d'approvisionnement peut s'avérer fragile, le mono-sourcing empêchant de facto d'adopter une solution de repli rapide.
Multi-sourcing
Le multi-sourcing est la stratégie consistant à diversifier son portefeuille de fournisseurs pour un même produit. C'est le choix qui est le plus commun au sein des entreprises, de par ses nombreux avantages.
Adopter plusieurs fournisseurs permet par exemple d'absorber les aléas de livraison liés aux différentes positions géographiques des fournisseurs ou de rattraper les conséquences d'un problème financier.
Elle a pour but de permettre l'analyse du processus afin de mettre en lumière ses différents dysfonctionnements.
C’est la démarche qui ramène à identifier vos potentiels nouveaux partenaires ou Fournisseurs.

La stratégie d’achat regroupe toutes les étapes qui sont utilisées en amont et pendant le processus d’achat au sein d’une entreprise. Cela englobe aussi bien la définition des objectifs, que les procédés à utiliser ou les partenaires à favoriser.
C’est en général la direction des achats qui est responsable au sein d’une entreprise de définir cette stratégie. Le processus et les décisions d’achats reposent sur trois piliers qui doivent être pris en compte à tous moments :

La segmentation achats consiste à identifier et à classer tous les achats (produits et services) d'une entreprise en plusieurs groupes. Chaque segment d'achat doit être suffisamment homogène (que ce soit en matière de marché fournisseurs, technique, logistique…)
Le Demand Driven Material Requirements Planning – DDMRP est une méthodologie de gestion des flux pour la planification. Il signifie Planification des besoins en matériel en fonction de la demande. La méthode DDMRP repose donc, comme son nom le laisse entendre, sur le management de la supply chain par la demande.
